Don’t cut corners when buying property!

21 December, 2017

Whilst it may seem tempting to try and save money wherever you can when buying a property, taking shortcuts on your conveyancing is something that should be avoided.

Sellers are not under an obligation to disclose defects in the property itself or the title of a property. So when it comes to buying a property remember it is “buyer beware.” Purchasing a property is one of the biggest steps in someone’s life, so trying a save a few dollars here could end up costing you much more in the long term.

Despite what you may have heard, unless you know the law, acting for yourself is not a good idea. Conveyancing in Queensland is complex and many things may not go as expected. It is important to have a trusted professional with experience handling the work.

It is also important that you obtain the best advice and do all the searches recommended by your lawyer. Often these searches can reveal important things which may give you rights under the contract of sale. For example, you may have renovations/extensions planned but may not be aware of the sewerage/stormwater line that runs underneath your property.

In conclusion, be smart and don’t cut corners to ensure a smooth conveyancing process and property ownership.
